Statistics is the branch of mathematics
concerned with the collection and
interpretation of data. Eg: to determine the
mean age of the children in a school, a
statistically acceptable answer might be
obtained by calculating an average based on
the ages of a representative sample,
consisting, eg: of a random tenth of the
pupils from each class.
